Childish Gambino To Perform At 2012 Woodies Festival
Donald Glover is moving up. One year ago, the actor/rapper served as master of ceremonies at the mtvU Woodie Awards, and now, he’ll be taking the stage as a performer … as his alter ego Childish Gambino has just been added to the list of acts confirmed for the first-ever Woodies Festival. Gambino joins the likes of fun., A$AP Rocky,Kimbra and Chiddy Bang as headliners at the fest, which is set for March 15 at Red River and East 1st Street in Austin during South by Southwest.
The Woodies Festival is open to both SXSW badge-holders and non-credentialed music fans alike, and gets underway at 1 p.m. CT. If you can’t make it down to Austin, don’t fret: The entire fest will stream live onWoodies.mtvU.com and leads up to the 2012 Woodie Awards, which take over SXSW at 8 p.m. CT. A 30-minute “2012 mtvU Woodie Awards Special” will air Sunday, March 18, on MTV and mtvU.
More performers for both the Woodies Fest and the awards themselves will be revealed in the coming days. Last week, Santigold was confirmed as the first act taking the stage during the awards.
The Woodie Awards are shaping up to be big for Gambino. In addition to performing at the fest, he’s up for the Breaking Woodie award, given to the best up-and-coming act. Voting for that category (and all others) is now open through the Woodies’ website, or on mobile phones at M.MTV.com, and continues until March 9. Voting for the “Breaking” award will remain open during the live show on March 15.

California emcee Ruby Ibarra drops the first video of visuals to her
upcoming mixtape. Honestly I was already feeling the track… and then she dropped some vicous bars in Tagalog (Filipino). This video is not for the weak hearted, or for those who can’t appreciate true lyricism. I can’t wait for the next video to drop.
The production is tight and the instruments are grimey. Shout out to her producer. The horns kind of reminded me of the movie “Inception.” Like death was approaching.
NEW MUSIC: FAR EAST MOVEMENT F/ JUSTIN BIEBER – ‘LIVE MY LIFE’

At a press conference on Monday in Seoul, Swizz Beatz announced a deal with his own production company and South Korea’s O.N. Media, producing collaborations between US and Korean artists, which would help to introduce and promote Korean artists in the US market. He said he would love to produced a Rihanna/2NE1 track. Swizz Beatz also had this to say:
It’s a new expression and the world is open for new things. I think right now K-Pop in Korea is leading in that area, and I would love to be the one to introduce that to the West. The biggest thing with K-Pop is how much it’s elevated to the next level. A genius like Kanye West [West collaborated with Korean boy band JYJ on "Ayy Girl"] and other geniuses that are smart enough to work with K-Pop groups understand that music is universal… I believe in leadership, I believe in setting the pace, I don’t like to wait till somebody else does it. I like to be one of the first.
A Conversation with Jeremy Lin (Interviewed by Rick Quan)
This Interview was from last year before Jeremy became who he is today for the Knicks. He talks about the racism he faced while attending Harvard and how he proved the doubters wrong about his basketball ability. Jeremy also shares about the importance of his Christian faith and how it puts everything he does in perspective.
Geez, I must really like Canadian artists because here’s another! A singer coming from up north, with the help of B.O.B., comes with a upbeat & motivational record, Change the Record. This is from her upcoming sophomore album, The MF Life, dropping on March 20th.
So is she talking about relationships or is she talking about music….??

Dumbfoundead just dropped a short music video for one of his songs off his new EP, Love Everyday. If the name doesn’t suggest, all the tracks are love songs and it was appropriately released on Valentine’s Day.
Like usual the music is super chill and relaxing, but DFD manages to change up his flow in a couple of the songs. The EP doesn’t disappoint and would make nice additions to my iPod.
You can download the EP for free by clicking here. (just enter $0 into the box)
I grew up listening to usher doing tracks like “Nice & Slow” but it’s great seeing him still in the music biz doing the damn thing and moving on with the times. Do you like this new club anthem? I’m feeling how Usher is still singing on this track, instead of heavily abusing the crap out of auto-tune.
I’m also a fan of Diplo after I first heard of him doing that track with Tiesto “C’mon” which is mad hype, so I look forward to hearing more of these two artists together.
Diplo and Usher have been exchanging tweets over the past couple of days using various superlatives to describe their new track “Climax”. Usher refers to the track as another “strip club classic”, while the Floridian producer-DJ describes it as “some next level electrosoul” and stated the he’s “pretty sure in 9 months there gonna be a lot of new babies that this song is responsible for”. Ariel Rechtshaid, the bassist of Foreign Born is also credited with co-writing the track. Usher’s latest LP is set for release later this year and if it follows in the trait of “Climax”, we can agree with Diplo’s statement that it will be “game-changing”.
J. Cole Says 'Anybody Can Win' Best New Artist Grammy
As confident as J. Cole sounds in his music, he’s not so sure if he’ll take home the Best New Artist trophy at Sunday’s Grammys.
When the rapper and Jay-Z protégé sat down with MTV News on Friday (February 10), he said he’s excited about the Grammy nod but won’t really understand the weight of the honor until Sunday night.
The way I work, I’m day-by-day. I’ll really be excited … the day of,” he said. “Once I put on that suit, it changes everything.”
The rapper said he was in Amsterdam on the European leg of his tour when he learned he was nominated for the award. He’ll be going up against the Band Perry, Bon Iver, Nicki Minaj and Skrillex. Cole said he woke up to the news at 4 in the morning when a friend banged on his hotel door.
"I couldn’t believe it. My whole tone changed. I went from mad angry to, like, a little kid. Like, ‘Yo, are you serious?’ It was a dope moment. We got a couple of my other friends up. Woke everybody up, just chilled in the room, talked about it and went through the whole journey," he said. "It was cool. It was good. A nice moment."
If he doesn’t walk away with the win this year, Cole said he’ll just work harder to get another nomination next year.
"The Grammy stamp is a validation on an artist. To win it would be even crazier. But the nomination is dope. Everybody wants a Grammy. Just to be nominated and have the chance to have one is incredible," he said. "This is not something I plan on doing one time. Even if I don’t win, I plan on being back next year. I think it can go either way."
The one thing he won’t do? Write a speech.
"As confident as I sound, I really don’t think I’m going to win. It’s cool. It’s all good," he said. "Anybody can win it.
