The Game - Rollin (ft Kanye West, Trae Tha Truth, Z-Ro, Paul Wall, Slim Thug)

image

Looks like there has been some new life over in the West and Game has a new one out for everybody. This time he recruits some Texan muscle with Trae Tha Truth, Z-Ro, Paul Wall (!!), Slim Thug, and Kanye West. Apparently, according to Ty Kidd, this song was originally meant for Game’s debut album, The Documentary.

Kanye West - White Dress

image

Like we said yesterday, RZA’s Man with the Iron Fists official sound track is coming out later this month and today we get another full song release. This time its from Chi-town’s own Kanye West.

On this track, Kanye brings back some of his vintage sounds with some soulful sampling that made him oh-so popular back in the early 2000s. The result is just a smooth jam that has a feeling of the old and modern Mr. West.

Good things come to those who wait, and according to Mannie Fresh , Kanye West ’s G.O.O.D. Music compilation  is “pretty close” to being finished. Still no word on an actual release date, but the former Cash Money hitmaker is excited about his sessions with Yeezy’s crew.

Popout

"The cool thing about G.O.O.D. Music is it’s a bunch of great ideas and I’m one of those ideas," he told MTV News on Thursday at the South by Southwest festival. "[Kanye’s] trying to find the most talented producers, most talented artists, put ‘em all in a room and say, ‘Go for it. Y’all energy, like whatever is creative to y’all.’ "

It all sounds pretty organic. “I just kinda went to the Watch the Throne concert. Word got back that I was in there and we linked up from there,” Fresh said about his and Kanye’s initial meeting. “Next thing you know, I was at his crib playing beats, [and] he was just like, ‘Dude I like mostly everything you played. Sign right here.’ “

It’s still unclear whether Fresh has actually signed on with G.O.O.D. Music, but he has clearly been putting in a lot of work with the team, which includes Yeezy, Big Sean, Pusha T and producer Hit-Boy. “The cool thing is, in hip-hop history, when have we ever got along? It’s a cool thing that we’re sitting at the table, all of us get along on one accord trying to make something great — G.O.O.D. Music,” Fresh said.

Much of the G.O.O.D. Music album is still shrouded in mystery. We know the crew has been recording in London, but beyond that there hasn’t been any information regarding an official album title or singles. “It’s pretty close, I would say it’s pretty close,” Mannie said about the LP’s expected completion date. “Songs phenomenal, everything. It’s an album that’s all over the place, it’s not just one thing. It’s not just that you’re gonna hear some Southern hip-hop or whatever. You’re gonna hear everything.”

Kanye, Jay-Z Battle Young Money For Best Rap Album Grammy

image

Who would’ve ever thought that hip-hop would take it this far? The Notorious B.I.G. posed the question on his 1994 classic “Juicy,” and the 2012Grammy nominations prove that hip-hop continues to rise to new heights. For the second year in a row, a rap artist is leading in Grammy nods: Last year it was Eminem, this year Kanye West.

Yeezy’s seven nods take the cake. Two of West’s nominations come in the hotly contested Best Rap Album category; one for his solo My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy and the other for his and Jay-Z's Watch the Thronetag-team LP.

Lil Wayne's Tha Carter IV,Nicki Minaj's Pink Friday and Lupe Fiasco’s Lasers round out the category, and while the odds are clearly in the Louis Vuitton Don’s favor, he isn’t exactly a lock.

If record sales are any indication, it will be tough to ignore the first-weeksales of Wayne’s Carter IV. The approximate 960,000 units Weezy sold in his first week didn’t earn him a platinum plaque right out of the gate, but it stood as one of the biggest hip-hop stories of 2011. CIV has since been certified double platinum by the RIAA, and though some critics panned it, high-powered singles like “6 Foot 7 Foot,” “She Will” and “John” helped cement Wayne’s ninth solo album as a fan-favorite.

Just like her Young Money boss, Nicki Minaj reigned throughout the year thanks to Pink Friday. Released at the end of 2010 and anchored by the infectious and inescapable bonus track "Super Bass," Nicki’s debut LP helped her to penetrate the pop space while still keeping a foot firmly planted in the streets with her “Did It On ‘Em” single.
